You will be blown away at how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own Hemp Seed Milk. What is hemp seed milk? Hemp seed milk is a non-dairy “milk” made with hemp seeds and water. That’s it! It literally takes 1 minute to make this very healthy, inexpensive milk that is great for smoothies, or topped over granola.

You’ve probably seen or consumed other non-dairy milks like almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia milk. Most of the milk alternatives found at the store are made with nuts. But hemp seeds also make a great non-dairy milk and may appeal to you if you have a nut free home or perhaps you bought that giant bag of hemp seeds from Costco and are not sure what to do with all those hemp seeds!

Homemade hemp seed milk is not only a healthier alternative to store-bought versions, it’s cheaper and better for the environment (see ‘Reasons to Make Your Own Non-Dairy Milk’ below). It’s also incredibly simple to prepare with just 2 basic ingredients. Plus there is no straining the pulp here, like you have to do with nut milks.

Here, I’ll walk you through the process, to help you create fresh, flavorful hemp seed milk, while saving money and cutting back on food additives. So, grab your hemp seeds and a blender, and let’s get started.

This Hemp Seed milk is very high in protein, naturally gluten free, grain free, nut free, dairy-free, plant-based, paleo and ketogenic friendly.

Reasons to make your own Non-Dairy Milk

While store-bought non-dairy “milks” can be convenient, there are several reasons why some people choose to avoid it:

Added Ingredients: Most commercial non-dairy milk brands contain additives like stabilizers, emulsifiers, preservatives, and sweeteners to extend shelf life and improve flavor. These additives may not align with your dietary preferences or health goals. Certain additives, such as emulsifiers, have been shown to disrupt the gut microbiome, potentially contributing to intestinal inflammation and other health issues.

Added Sugars: Some store-bought non-dairy milk varieties can be high in added sugars, which can contribute to health issues like obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.

Environmental Impact: Making your own non-dairy milk can reduce packaging waste, as it eliminates the need for cartons or plastic bottles.

Cost Savings: Homemade non-dairy milk is often more cost-effective than buying it from the store, especially when you purchase nuts or seeds in bulk. This can be a significant money-saving benefit. All you need is 1 cup of almonds or 2 cups of hemp seeds to make 6 cups of “milk”.

Customization: When you make non-dairy milk at home, you have full control over the ingredients and flavor. You can adjust sweetness, flavorings (like vanilla or cinnamon), and thickness to suit your preferences.

Freshness: Homemade non-dairy milk is as fresh as it gets, with no need for long shelf life. This can result in a creamier and more flavorful milk.

How to Store this Hemp Seed Milk

Store hemp seed milk in large mason jar or glass container with a secure lid. Must be refrigerated. Use within 7 days. I have not tried freezing it. Be sure to shake the jar before using if your milk has been resting in the fridge.  There may be a small amount of natural sediment in the milk that develops as it rests.
